  • Overview and Responsibilities


    • Nickelodeon Animation has an exciting new opportunity for a Character Technical Director to work on a CG animated sitcom in Unreal Engine. We are seeking candidates who are familiar with the CG animation pipeline and Unreal Engine 4. The Character Technical Director oversees the character pipeline, ensuring rigs are ready for motion capture and facial performance.


    • Create high quality animation rigs, systems, setups, and workflows
    • Develop character rigging pipeline for real-time production
    • Develop new techniques and processes to solve character production challenges
    • Works closely with external vendors to ensure rigs are comprehensive and prepared for Motion capture and Facial Performance
    • Complete the work assigned at the highest quality possible while staying on schedule
    • Maintain an understanding of skeletons, facial animation methodologies, constraints and other Maya tools and systems used for character animation
    • Ensure other CG artists are following guidelines and workflows around character rigs
    • Create and Update documentation explaining our process and tools

    Basic Qualifications


    • 3-5 years of experience as a character rigger in television animation, feature animation, or video games
    • 2-3 years of experience working in Unreal Engine
    • Strong understanding of both Figure and Facial Anatomy
    • Excellent knowledge of Maya
    • Strong knowledge of IK and FK systems
    • Technical mindset with experience of implementing assets in Unreal Engine
    • Possess a comprehensive understanding of animation techniques for the purpose of proactive problem solving and trouble shooting
    • Self-driven, good communicator, and a great-team player
    • Excellent organizational and communication skill
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities and problem solving
    • Must have ability to lead with a positive attitude and encourage collaboration


    • Knowledge of scripting, Mel or Python
    • Extensive knowledge of an Unreal Engine pipeline
    • An understanding of Rigging and Modeling
    • Previous experience working with Motion Capture
    • Previous experience with Facial Motion Capture (Dynamixyz, Faceware)
